MUMBAI: Over 5,000 residents of the Golibar slums, who are in favour of redevelopment, took out a massive
rally to suburban collector Nirmal Kumar Deshmukh's office on Monday.
The rally was a reaction to the government giving into activist Medha Patkar's demands on Saturday. The rally started at 10 am and covered the Golibar area, headed to Deshmukh's office, where residents voiced their grievances to the officers.
"Over 600 slum dwellers have been already rehabilitated and 400 families will be given their houses within next 3 months.
We have waited for long with many living in transit camps since 2005. The halt on the construction is delaying our rehabilitation," said Shubhangi Shinde, chief promoter of the Ganeshkrupa society.
